I know, it's really shrove tuesday!!

So who's having pancakes today, and what you're putting on them?

I'm at work this evening , so I've done some scotch pancakes to take (easier to transport), and I'll take some maple syrup too. But normally we'd have normal ordinary pancakes and other than sugar and lemon, they'd be ice cream, maple syrup, possibly a drop of pear brandy.

My husband is in charge of pancakes - they're really good, he adds vanilla suger and cardamon to them, and he always makes so many that they are quite a few left over. Being a man and impatient we have two frying pans so he can have two pancakes on the go at once! I keep out of the kitchen as there is usually a bit of swearing when he's in there!!

I thought I was the only person to use two pans for pancakes. The kids can't eat them fast enough. We will be having them tonight - my son in law is in charge. I like mine with ice cream and maple syrup.

Like AuntieEm I love pancakes , but can only eat them with lovely onion gravy on would not want anything sweet on them.

Well that's a new one on me - never had them with gravy. Had them sliced up in clear soup in Austria though, that was nice.

We have a pancake cafe not far from us, they do both savoury and sweet pancakes - the one they do with a mincemeat filling is good!
Had ones with a mushroom and cream filling once on a school trip to France, they were the starter, none of the others liked them, so all of a sudden I had about ten on my plate!!Had , not surprisingly, great difficulty eating the main course

Pancake cafe not seen any around this area, makes a nice change from some the types we have, the mincemeat filling sounds good, that's if it savoury mincemeat.

I've postponed it until tomorrow!
Today we had saltkjöt og baunir which is like pea and ham soup only salted lamb and yellow split peas, with swede and carrots and potatoes. No space for pancakes! This dual nationality this is killing me.

We have that here too, although it's called Guleærter (Yellow peas), but's it's not a Shrove Tuesday thing, just a good rib sticking winter meal (I'll have to bully my mother in law to making it!!)

We love pancakes too, every year on Shrove Tuesday we say "We must do this more often" but never do. Because of my wheat allergy I make them with an equal mix of Rye flour and Dove's gluten free self-raising flour. But we are usually on diets by Shrove Tuesday so only three each (that's one batch made with a single egg). Lemon and sugar for me and Golden Syrup for MrsSRD.

I think that's my favourite - Golden Syrup - yummm

Golden syrup's delicious on poridge, but much prefer maple for pancakes
