I have a relative named Mary Dunn born in 1805.On the 1851 census her place of birth is given as Martromley in Salop.I have never heard of any such place in Shropshire.Has anyone any ideas about this name please.

Is this a transcription, or is that what the image says?
I've had a quick look but I couldn't find her on FMP, where was she living in 1851?

It's MARCHAMLEY near WEM.

How about Marchamley in North Shropshire?
Remember that many people couldn't spell including enumerators who were conducting the census.
If it turns out not to be Marchamley, Google 'places in Shropshire'.

Thank you all for your replies. I e-mailed the Shropshire Archives and they told me the name was probably Marchamley,so I shall go with that .
