She 's here on BCC:

http://bcconnections.tribalpages.com/fa ... ris-Family

Did she marry or not?

On the 1891 census, she's living with her brother her:
1891 Census
36 Queen Street, West Bromwich.
Albert Morris, Head, S, 25, Cycle Maker, I.O.M Douglas
Mary, Mother, Widow, 53,
Stanley Hayden Morris, Nephew, S, 1,
Thos Percy Claridge, Brother In Law, M, 26, Actor, London
Eliza Claridge, Sister, M, 26, Opera Singer
Amelia Claridge, Niece, S, 1,
Others born Staffs Rowley.

In 1901 she's with her mother here:
50 Legge Street, West Bromwich.
Mary A Morris,Head, Widow, 63, Lets Apartments, Staffs Rowley
Eliza A, Daur, S,34, Staffs Rowley
Stanley H, Grandson, S, 13, Staffs West Bromwich
Amelia B Clarridge, Granddaur, S, 11, Hounslow
George Bryne, Boarder, M, 21, Actor, Manchester,
Minnie Bryne, Boarder, M, 20, Staffs Tipton,
Barry Stewart, Boarder, M, 55, Actor, Liverpool.

I think Stanley was born in 1888 as I've found a Stanley H Morris on WMBMD, and a possible marriage in 1909 (look up requested).

I can't find a marriage for Eliza and Thomas Claridge, or Amelia's birth. Can anyone spot them?

I've seen that one, but both Mary's and Eliza's place of birth have been consistent as Rowley.

I haven't Eliza in 1881, she's not with her mother and brother in Lancashire, so where is she?

Looks like a good bet, it's a shame she wasn't with Thomas Claridge - I'll have to see if I can find him.

The age on the census is correct. This one's got me intrigued. I've no definate proof that Stanley is Eliza's son. I've found a birth on free bmd for a Stanley Hayden Morris in 1888, so he's a couple of years older than on the first census.
I've not been able to locate Thomas Percy Claridge before or after that census of 1891. I'll try again to see if I can find a marriage for them. It just strikes me as odd that Eliza is using her maiden name and described as single when she's back living with her mother.
You're right about the marriage cert, it'll be difficult to know one way or another.

Given that she was an opera singer and he was an actor -- he could have been using a stage name elsewhere --

-- more positively you may find reference to him in the newpapers/ an acting museum?

Is this still a Brickwall, or have you solved it?

Unless otherwise advised this will be moved to the Brickwalls Archived section
