Can someone confirm pls that you can only build an extension up to 2 metres to the boundary

I'm pretty sure there are general rules, but there are also local bye laws so it may vary. Don't know if the council contacts neighbours before planning permission is granted - I know here, that you can build closer to the boundry than normal, but only if your neighbours agree.

We built an extension virtually ON the bloundary between us and the attached neighbours. Sandwell council. But all councils vary and you would need to check. If it's a brick extension you'll need a building inspector as well, so he'll not let it be built in the wrong place surely

We did the same CID. Our next door neighbour said we couldn't encroach on his land when we built a brick wall, just 18 inches high with posts to slot in fences, it was really hard work building it while his fence was still there. When it was finished though, he took his fence down. Then we built an extension on the other side of the house and had to apply for planning permission. We lived by Warley Woods at the time and the planning permission came back (in black and white) that is was OK to build this extension between our house and No (?) Throne Road. Great - that gave us a distance of about a mile.

Ithink it's to do with planning/building regs; for some extensions you don't need permission unless other considerations come into it, building close to a boundary may be one of those considerations. I know we needed permission for a shed that we wanted to put up within 10 metres of the house which we wouldn't have needed if the shed was to be placed further than 10 metres from the house.

Nextdoor put up a conservatory next to our fence. The window sills touch it, its that near.
No way we could repair the fnce now there. I certainly would want the outside of the wall showing as its not been pointed!
I dont know the local council building regs should tell you.
