Having just got my first certificate delivered I'm now struggling a little so wondered if I could get some points on where's best to look.
I have a copy of a relative of my GGM's death cert.
Ada Elizabeth Tipping, wife of John Henry Tipping cycle frame fitter died in Aston at address I have for her covering nearly 50yrs. I also have John Henry on my GF's marriage cert, deceased by 1932.

I found the marriage index for John and Ada, That's my first certificate
John Henry 26 cycle worker married Ada Elizabeth Powell 21 on xmas day 1906 in St Pauls living in Alma street. This also gives both fathers names as John Henry Tipping bottler & John James Powell deceased.

From that I have John Henry Tipping b1880 app son of John Henry Tipping.

I have also got a reference to this in the Birmingham electoral rolls, I think its 1931/32. It has John Henry Tipping (older) Ada Elizabeth Tipping & John Henry (younger)
This must have been take just prior to his death as he's deceased by Oct 1st 1932 re: GF's marriage cert.

I am looking for the Birth Cert for John Henry Tipping b1880. How can I work out what one to send for?
I haven't managed to find John Henry Tipping Father / son combo yet. I've started looking on ancestry at the censuses while at the library but as yet have not come across anything. Where would be the best place to look ?

Have you got the 1911 census? that will not be on ancestry but is on FMP -- if you don't have access say so and we will see what we can do

No, just been using the library's free access to ancestry & historical data site 'till I get the hang of what I'm doing. Then hopefully I'll have more idea of what site/s will best suit.

John Henry Tipping b 1880 in Birmingham is certainly difficult to track

the only one I could find who might have had a father John is

1881 4, Court 14 Brierley Street, Birmingham
WILLIAMS, Thomas Head Married M 60 1821 Metal Worker (White) Kington Herefordshire
WILLIAMS, Sophia Wife Married F 53 1828 Housewife Hereford Herefordshire
WILLIAMS, Emily Daughter Single F 19 1862 Kington Herefordshire
WILLIAMS, Harriett Daughter Single F 17 1864 Military Ornament Maker Kington Herefordshire
TIPPING, John Grand Son Single M 1 1880 Bham Warwickshire

But that could be a complete wild goose chase and doesn't give many possible leads as I cannot find him in 1891/1901 to discount him either.

Maybe someone else will be along soon to give some other ideas.

Try this site, really good for all things Birmingham, some of the people on there live in Brum and have access to the Parish Records and Archive documents etc:

Ada Elizabeth is easier to track down -- I will leave her for you to find unless you indicate you would like some help rather than hints

That looks like the right family, although its going to give me a headache
The father to the cycle fitter should also be called John Henry
It looks like the head is the birth I'm trying to source, but again how can I determine which is the most likely birth record to request. I dont even know where he may have been born, I attempted some of the earlier censuses but all I have to go on Is that his name is John henry and so is his fathers. As you can see from the 1911 record you have posted they have only been married for 4 years so I cant use Ada's name to aid me in the search in 1901?
Any thoughts?

I found this one and for a while quite liked it but the more I dug I found that this is more likely to be the eldest son of a Joseph and mary ann tipping that I have found in the 1881/91 and 1901 censuses. For a while i thought that they may the next in line for me to acquire, till I recieved the marriage certificate stating the fathers name as john henry and not joseph :(

As a side note, at 6 swan terrace in a later electoral roll, I'll have to root it out again, I once again have Ada but this time with a jane elizabeth. I think she is the wife of our son here. I can find a marriage index for that, but at the moment couldn't find the son you have here as he was born before they added maiden names to the birth index. So thats a help as well thx :-)
