Does The Genealogist site have anymore information than Ancestry ? My Ancestry subscription is about to run out and I wondered if it was worth trying a different site.

Thanks
Nessa

Ancestry has more information.

The Genealogist has things I find usefull that are missing from Ancestry.

The non-conformist records.

Overseas and military BDM.

Far better Parish Register transcriptions.

Better indexed gazeteers and directories.

Much better marriage indexes and soon birth indexes.

Family Forename search which is fantastic for finding people in the Census.

The Genealogist compliments Ancestry. It does not replace it. It is totally useless if you have family members outside of the UK.

Hello linell,

The short answer is no I didn't find anymore out about Henry, I became engrossed by his son William Hnery Guest/Leopard. I obtained a copy of WH will and the funeral write up from the Dudley Herald which both gave me a huge number of names and information. I do believe now that William Henry and my great grandmother Mary Emma were brother and sister, it looks as if first cousins married. As for Netherton Hall i do have a pen and ink drawing of it just before it was demolished around 1862, and I know that bricks and woodwork taken from the Hall went on to be used in the building 0f Hall Lane farm and my dad says the cellars are under the pool at Hall Lane.
Thanks for asking,
Nessa

That's all great news Nessa, sounds like you have come on leaps and bounds with your research. You know that the Cholera Victims were buried out in the fields near Netherton Hall, must be loads of ghostly goings on up there :!: Best Wishes from Linell.

Hello linell,

I do have a copy of an article about the cholera epidemic and how they used the outbuildings at Netherton Hall to keep the bodies before they were buried. I agree it does sound awlful, my dad can remember playing on the cholera fields at the farm when he was little but he didn't think anything of it at the time.
I will have to go back to Henry Guest at some time in thr future and also try to find more out about Elizabeth Leopard who he have or maynot have married.
