A lovely gig; Fay well supported by Rob Harbron and Sam Sweeney on a variety of fiddles, concertina, nyckelharpa, guitar, percussion and background vocals.

Ah, so this music, based as it is on African rhythmns and Jewish tunes, telling tales of times past, isn't a form of folk music?

Much as I admire Mike Waterson's work, this isn't the best example, turning a rowdy drinking song into a bit of a dirge.

Very good performance from the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra; a dramatic Beethoven
Egmont overture, an excellent Shostakovich
Violin concerto no. 1 and a bathroom suite of a Strauss
Ein Heldenleben. Fine playing from the cellist Gautier Capucon, well supported by the orchestra and its soloists entertainingly conducted by Andris Nelsons. Full review at
