I'm looking for the first marriage of Robert Tindall, born 1852 ish. The surnane has various spellings. I have the certificate from his second marriage in 1878 to Sarah Graham in Newcastle. On that document it states his (Robert) status as widower and his fathers name as Edward (occupation; Cartman). Searched for donkeys on all the usuall sites. Turned up Zilch! Any suggestions I can try. I'm on FMP, but not ancestry.
Cheers

What are the other spellings? Has anybody checked Ancestry for you? Sometimes I've found things there that I coudn't find on FMP, and visa versa.

Tindal,Tindle, Tindale. I was on Ancestry for a couple of months a while back. Afraid I drew a blank there as well. Are there any free church or parish records online i could try?

The information I have puts Roberts DOB at 1852. 1866 may be a tad early. Although i have no idea what the legal age for marriage was back then.

What was Roberts occupation on his second marriage.

1861
Weetslade, Northumberland
Edward Tindale 35 coalminer
Martha ditto 27
William ditto 13
Robert ditto 11 born Newcastle
Edward ditto 8
George ditto 6
Joseph ditto 11m

1871
Yarrow
Edw Tindale 48 labourer (Lindle on Ancestry)
Martha ditto 38
Edw ditto 18
George ditto 16
Joseph ditto 11
John ditto 9
Thos ditto 7
James ditto 4
Christopher ditto 2

1881
West Herrington
Edward Tindale 57 labourer colliery
Martha ditto 48
etc etc

If that is the right Edward then he obviously moved afair bit and could have been a carter at time of marriage.

So I think Robert married after 1871 and before 1878.
Perhaps at Alnwick
Elizabeth Bowden or Isabella Gibson
Jun 1877

not much time to be widowed though.

Yes that is him.

Lamesley, Durham

This is interesting.I Havent picked this up before. Where did you find this?

What was Roberts occupation on his second marriage.

His occupation was listed as a 'striker' From what i can gather this is a blacksmiths assistant! The 1881 census has him as a coal miner.

Thanks for everyones replies. I'll do a bit more digging today. What I'm trying to ascertain is a 'nailed on' connection between Robert and one of these Edwards, his father. It's proving mighty difficult.
