Hingley and Levi Davis or Davies

Interesting stuff on this website:
http://privatewww.essex.ac.uk/~alan/family/30.htmlIt has some information there about a Levi Davis or Davies which looks like it is the same Levi as on:
http://bcconnections.tribalpages.com/family-tree/bcconnections/39480/71587/Benjamin-Hingley-FamilyGoing on the information there it looks like Levi's mother was a Hingley and he married a Hingley!
He married a second time and this time the name on the marriage certificate is DAVIES and says he was a bachelor.
They have both marriage certificates on this site.
Any theories on this one?

Yes it does look like the same Levi Davis, as the Marriage details match on BCC looked up by RF and the Marriage details on Alan Stainer's tree. Linell.

That's what it looks like to me as well - two different Levis. Someone has obviously put in a lot of research and believes they are the same person.
That site also has another brother to Nancy listed - Benjamin b 1826 which is not on the BCC site.
I was actually trying to find some of Nancy's ancestors on her father's side. I'll have to start a new thread with that request.

There only appears to be the one Levi Davies on the Census

A Trace Maker is a type of Chain Maker and Carters were employed at the Collieries to move the Coal around, I don't see any discrepancy there, as NL says you need to get the 2nd Marriage checked. Linell.

There is a death for Nancy Davis:-
Deaths Mar 1845
DAVIS Nancy Dudley 18 271
If that is Levi's wife he could well have Married again, I think you need to order the death certificate tinkerbell.

Yes I have seen the certificates that is why I mentioned them in my original post.
You explained how it was possible about the occupations being similar in another post but I am still wondering about the different surname Davis to Davies. That could be possible too.
Linell pointed out a death for Nancy Davis in Mar 1845 - does this allow Levi to call himself a bachelor on his second marriage certificate?

Tinkerbell, you can't believe anything you find on these old documents, bach or spinster can mean nothing, just how they felt on the day or could be the Registrars take on Levi's Marital Status, as for the spelling of Davis, that again depends on who is filling in the forms, I don't suppose Levi knew how it was spelt, it was left to other's who could read and write to decide on that one, names are spelt different ways all the time, you have to account for that. HTH Linell.

I will add this for a look at just to see for ourselves what it says
1851
DAVIES Levi ADAMS Sarah Wordsley, Holy Trinity Dudley Register Office 018/003/226
the spelling of surname just varies as Linell says depending how it sounds,
who is recording it etc.
Bach / Wid...lots of errors there
tracemaker/chainmaker same really traces smaller chains
do you want to archive this pending look up?
