Hi all, I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for the sterling work you have put in to my family tree. I have managed to put together the beginnings of pages for my website and you can see your contributions at http://www.riverdale.org.uk/brian/antec ... dents.html and http://www.riverdale.org.uk/hingley/hingley.html.

Any comments would be welcomed but please remember this is one ongoing project of many so suggestions may well take time to implement.

Local legend says that the Hingley's were originally Huguenots, which would explain some of their more unusual names. Glad to hear it is all coming together for you Simon from Linell.

I don't know about Huguenots, many of the names are OT and therefore Jewish, but these were taken up by the Protestant non-conformist churches and chapels of which there are/were many in the Black Country and other centres of the Hingley name. My wife has Huguenot antecedents and they mainly have French names, similar to Norman and Breton ones. The only name in this research I'd not come across before was Adin and I wonder if Eli and Maria Hadley knew that Adin is old Hebrew for voluptuous (inter alia) as well as being the name of one of the exiles who returned from Babylon to Israel, the name was probably a family one as, in Ezr and 1 Esdras, the number of the sons of Adin is said to be 454, in Neh it is 655. (Thanks Google  )
