Was the start of the cricket boring or what. Me and Ken watched it until the Aussies got 50 then went to bed, missed the next 5 runs and we got a wicket.

Haven't really been following, how did the 4th test go?

We beat the Aussies by an innings and 157 runs.

(I have fond memories of revising for my o-levels watching our lot beat the aussies - sorry mark! Maybe the lack of test cricket explains my poor a-level results! )

England want to win this so they actually win the series, not just retain The Ashes.

If Australia win then it is a drawn series but England still get The Ashes.

I really don't mind who wins as long aa I can see a contest.

Not the most inspiring match so far, but with both sides with so much to lose it's hardly surprising. Pity the Aussie tail wagged so hard otherwise we'd be well on top, but we seem to be handling Johnson a bit better than we did in Perth, but we still seem vulnerable to the fast and bouncy stuff. Pietersen gave his wicket away again, he reminds me a little of Ramprakash, no backbone or discipline, despite the obvious genius.

Johnson was named International Player Of The Year in 2009 yet ge was dropped after the first Ashes Test.

The reason is his inconsistent performance not just from match tomatch but withing a single test or even session.

When he opened the bowling yesterday he simply was bowling too short and gifting the runs to the English openers.

Then he had a period where his brilliance shone through and then he ended the day with more sub-par bowling.

'Twas often the case with the fast boys, it wasn't unknown for any of them to wander off target or get too long or too short, it was just down to the skipper to take him off and give him an hour or so off, the trouble is when the quickie is the only strike bowler, then any side is in trouble.

An excellent day for England, I can't see the Aussies coming back from that.

Another good day for England although I thought taking the extra half hour was a bit optimistic, far better for all to come out refreshed tomorrow and have a morning of the Barmy Army dominating the proceedings. The Aussies front end weren't very impressive were they? Any predictions for the Twenty20 and the One day series?

I have never ever watched a 20/20 match.

No different than Hit and Giggle in the backyard.

As for the one dayers....I think the Poms will demolish the Aussies there as well.

The English bowlers were getting swing and seaming all over the place.

I don't think their batsmen are far ahead of the Australians but their bowlers have been brilliant.

I don't watch the matches, we don't have a telly, but there's good old TMS on the radio, much better when the commentators are good (but that's another story).

Twenty20 is so like local village cricket but played by better players, I enjoy watching village cricket so why not the County and International matches? I just don't think of it as cricket, like I don't think of Aussie Rules, NFL or League as Rugby Union but I still enjoy watching a good game.

I can't disagree about our bowlers being better than the Aussies'.
