Just wondering whether anyone has access to the following as I am told there is a reference to a "GLADDERS" in it. I am trying to find information on my gg grandfather who moved to the area sometime between 1861 and 1881 -- he was a Blacksmith by trade

Inhabitants of Dudley in Worcestershire (1868)
Gentry, farmers and traders listed in J. E. R. Kelly's Post Office Directory of Worcestershire.

Thank you for that Farside -- an interesting site but unfortunately not the one I need yet.

There are some Trade Directories on Ancestry. There is a William Gladders registered in Dudley Post Office Directory 1870 at the Druids Head in Bond Street (sounds like a pub)

Auntie Em
Do you mean you found this William Gladders on Ancestry or do you have the Dudley Directory itself? I am excited because this could be my GG Grandfather who started life in Durham (until 1851 census) then York for 1861 and was the one that moved us to the Black Country by 1881 census but I have yet to find him in the 1871 census.

The name is so unusual in the Black Country at that time I am really hopeful.

This was Mary's second marriage too -- her maiden name was Cope -- but that is as far as I can go backwards with her
