Now I understand if you Brits are sick of snow but we rarely get Christmas days under 30 degrees.

Forecast is for snow on the Dandenongs on Christmas Eve. That is about four kilometers from me.

So I am going to drive up there and enjoy my first ever white Christmas.

Wot??? Snow in my backyard at Christmas? Not possible ... but then, it is Melbourne. Weatherwise anything can happen. Gonna go look on the BOM site now.

Bureau of Meteorology says for Friday:
Mostly sunny, minimum 9 & maximum 21
and Christmas Day:
Sunny, minimum 9 & max. 22 ... Perfect!

Have you ever had snow in Australia Mark ?

Iv'e seen snow in the Blue Mountains around the Katoomba area.

I've heard that you can ski in Oz too, and not just on dry ski slopes... on the real thing!
My husbands just gone and bourght himself some cross country ski's - so that should reduce the risk of more of the white stuff!!!!

I live in the Dandenong Ranges just outside Melbourne and we have brief snow falls there most winters ... Well... we call it snow, but it's mostly ice and it rarely stays on the ground for long. We hardly ever see that lovely soft, floaty-down sort of snow.

Though, one year I did dislocate my knee slipping over in the snow when I went down to see if the chooks were all right.

It snows on the mountain ranges between New South Wales and Victoria and there is skiing there. Also Tasmania has a fair bit of snow.
But New Zealand is the place for snow and skiing in the Antipodes.

There was snow in the Dandenongs in December 2006.....

There are some world class ski slopes in Australia but rarely do suburbs get snow...apart from Ballarat which is the coldest place I have ever been in winter and the hottest in summer.

I'd just like to say that if I hadn't caught the dreaded swine flu - I would by now have been in Perth, where my niece assures me it is very warm and no sign of snow.... Grrrrrr

Half of Western Australia is currently under water!

Some parts received their yearly rainfall in a single day!!!

So not the best place to visit...even if Perth is a bit better off than some of the other parts of WA.

Perhaps it just as well I didn't go then - Debs did mention the rain ...... I think they're OK though

there be snow in the snowy mountians as i could of had a job on the hydro plants up there about 15 years back or does it all melt ?

I think we have a small belt of permanent snow on the highest peaks but most of it melts, and hence provides the water flow need for the Hydro Electric.
