I think there was only one Beech Lane (Lanes) which ran between Warley and Quinton
"HOLLY BUSH INN - Situated further up the hill, towards Birmingham, than the Hollybush/Jeffersons is now. It was in Beech Lanes (renamed Hagley Road West in 1926) where Holly Bush Grove is now. "
From Quinton Local History site :
http://www.qlhs.org.uk/. Worth adding to the Useful Sites page if it isn't already there. Packed full of information, even some school registers are included.
Lots of people from Rowley are buried at Christchurch, so the Buriel Records could prove useful.

There is a John Fox living with the Carter Family in Beech Lanes, but he is the wrong age (23) His age might be wrong on the Census, but I have a marriage for John Fox (Aged 23) to Tabitha Fox in 1871 in my family - I think this is the same one.

All of the counties in the area were mixed up a bit at this time.
Warley was once a little island of Shropshire in the middle of Worcestershire. I think it was given as a gift to the Earl of Shrewsbury and so became Shropshire. It was given back to Worcestershire around 1840, but then of course, while Oldbury was in Worcestershire, the Registration District was West Bromwich, which is in Staffordshire.
Very confusing, especially as Christchurch in Quinton was part of Birmingham.
I think the Fox family might at some point tie up with the Powells. I have done quite a bit of research into the the Fox family from Beech Lanes, this is my mother in law's family. Shall I start putting them on as a separate family and see if we get a connection.
Trouble is - where were they all Christened. I have found loads of them in the Warley Wesleyan Church at Smethwick Archives, but this isn't active until 1856 for Baptisms and 1919 for marriages. They don't seem to show up much at St John in Halesowen, so probably Christchurch in Oldbury. Could spend a day looking through the records at Smethwick.

Brilliant. I don't have this particular John Fox on my research - but will add my Fox's and try to find a connection. Pretty sure they're all related. So, do we think Sarah is the niece of Benjamin and that would make Benjamin and Henry brothers?

I think so! I dont think Benjamin married, its hard to see on census if unmarried.
Jane on 1841 may be too??

I looked for George Hampson in 1841 and someone on Ancestry has made an alteration to the George Homer living between Benjamin Powell and Joseph Powell and has altered the name to George Hampson. I have e mailed this person for more information
1841 - Beech Lane, Oldbury, Halesowen, Shropshire
Benjamin Powell, 40 Nailer, Born in County
Jane Fox, 20, Nailer, Not Born in County
John Fox, 3, Born in County
Next Door
George Homer, 20, Nailer, Not Born in County
Next Door
Joseph Powell, 25, Nailer, Born in County
Eliza Powell, 25,
William Powell, 5,
NK Powell, 1 Week
All Born in County
So that I get this right - in 1841 George Hampson is living next door with Joseph and Eliza Powell
Jane Fox is living with Benjamin Powell and Nephew John Fox
George Hampson Fox was probably married to Sarah Fox (can anyone find a marriage) or a Baptism for John Fox, born abt 1838.

Interesting?
That could be George who is living with Benjamin in 1851 then!

Safe to Archive I think. I will carry on searching the Fox families and adding what I can - to see if I can find a connection and will await a reply from the person on Ancestry.
