mmm...does anyone know what LIST K/1503/1 means?

Hi,

I can give you some information that may help but I agree that his records are not in the best condition:

On his service records I noted his medical category BIII which would mean he wasn't deemed fit for front line service because the medical categories ranged from the fittest AI. He enlisted on the 10th January 1916 but was placed on the reserve list due most likely to his poor medical condition until 26th July 1917 when he was mobilized into His Local Royal Warwickshire Regiment (Home Depot). Then at some time in 1918 he was transferred to the Home Depot of the Suffolk Regiment where he was promoted to Cpl. He was discharged under the Kings Regulation VXI no longer being physically fit for service on the 6th May 1919.

On his Medal Index Card it states he wasn't entitled to the British & Victory medals which confirms he never served overseas during the war and was based in the UK.

I think the LIST K/1503/1 means that his name is remembered on the Suffolk Regiment Roll of Honour under K/1503/1 which would likely state he served in the UK. My Great Grandfather enlisted in 1914 but was discharged due to illness prior to serving overseas and his name is still mentioned in His Regiments Rolls.

I think you'll find LIST K/1503/ refers to the issue of the Silver War Badge to men who were discharged on medical grounds.
