But I have found a number of Joseph Plants marrying an Elizabeth at same time

Many thanks, NL and Mumbles. Yes, Ephraim Plant's son Joseph Henry Plant b. 1859 married Elizabeth Lambert, and William Warwick Plant's son Joseph Plant b. 1859 married Elizabeth Harvey. I'm not sure who married Elizabeth Downing though! I've added a few bits to BCC re: these.
