Did anyone see it today? The winter of 62/63!! Who remembers that?
Bob Spicer couldn't get his grocery van up to the Cakemore Estate for days and we had no shops up there either.
I loved it though.Sledges over the golf links and making igloos.Although we couldn't play football for days and i think there was no professional football for weeks.
I've going back to work tomorrow so i'll have to tape it.

Yes - I remember that Rob, had family involved in that awful tragedy. The following Sunday I had people with briefcases knocking on my door asking did I believe ...... won't tell you here what I said.

Yes, I remember the 60s very well....We had 'skid chains' on the Fire Engines
for about 3 months, also we used a contraption not unlike a Vacuum hose to
connect to the exhuast so that we could unfreeze the fire hydrants. Also we
couldn't use the small hose reels as they were permanently frozen, and as water
was poured on burning buildings it froze in long icicles. I also attended 'Aberfan'
as part of the Birmingham Fire & Ambulance Rescue team, it was such a painful site,
and something that I shall never forget....a small town devastated for years after.
Yes,It was decade to remember, but not for just winning the 'World Cup'.

I remember my first mini skirt and my dad ordering me to get back upstairs and take that pelmet off "your now going out like that young lady". I remember living at the top of Oakham in the winter of 1962/63. Absolutely no chance of the milkman or the coalman getting up the hill. The thaw started at the beginning of March.

I wasn't even alive in the sixties, but just the name "Aberfan", makes me think of all those who died and their families. How do you pick up the pieces afterwards?
It must have been an aweful experience for the emergency services too - something that stays with you for the rest of your life.

My Dad said that as well Antie Em when I bought a mini dress. I started to take the hem down, which was all of an inch, when my brother asked what I was doing. He told me not to take any notice, so I sewed the hem up again.

I loved the programmes, brought back some happy memories. Loved the lady who said that if she had a time machine she would go back to the 60s. Wasn't everyone so slim, not like some of the teenagers today.
