John Howard Jinks (1891) married Alice Elizabeth Stevens (1894) in 1914 in West Bromwich. In 1916 they had a daughter Evelyn.
They left for Canada on the 2nd October 1920. Alice, Evelyn and Albert J (born in 1925) sailed to Liverpool in May 1926, giving the address of Alice's mother Amelia Stevens in Handsworth (matches up with address of next of kin on the Canadian immigration papers). They travelled back to Canada in August 1926.

John sailed back to Liverpool in November 1928, giving the address of his mother in West Bromwich (again matches up with Canadian immigration papers). I can't find a return journey for John, and have a possible death certificate in West Bromwich for him which ties in with age and occupation (moulder) - unfortunately the coroner was the informant.

I'm a bit stuck how to go forward - what happened to Alice and the children ? Any ideas?

That's right about Claypit Lane, but don't get Alice, as she didn't seem to travel out with John, Alice and Evelyn in 1920 (although there are pages missing on Ancestry - I found Alice (John's wife) on Mind My Past. Albert's age fits.
I'll see if I can find out some more.

The burial sort of fits, although her father should be Alfred rather than Frederick. When they emigrated they went to friends who lived in Ottawa St, Hamilton. Would her father be named because he'd also emigrated?

Frederick and Alfred would both have been shortened to Fred and if he was known by that then it could have been an inspired guess by the informant/ writer as to which it should have been

I had wondered that.
I suppose as well if Alice's age is slightly out then she may have been born shortly after they arrived in Canada. It would also make sense that the family came back after Alice seniors death, as three children might have been a bit much for John to cope with. It leaves some unanswered questions though - what happened to Evelyn for one? It also seems strange that a four year old and a nine year old would be travelling alone - they probably weren't, but someone would have had to look after them in Canada after there father left for England.
