As I was walking home this evening, I passed the local church at 5pm. The bells were playing "We plough the fields and scatter" - I haven't heard that in years. Made me think of harvest festivals at primary school. Funny how the sounds, especially music makes you nostalgic about certain things!

This time of year I think evokes all those kind of memories
the run up to bonfire night especially!
The dark nights, the feeling of christmas just round the corner!
Then the smell of bonfires!
Nights of brimstone and treacle!

Now I feel a little homesick
Never been too fussed about Halloween, but I love Bonfire Night. Can't get my husband to enthuse enough to have our own little bonfire. Roast pork baps, and fireworks!
I love this time of year. Walking home tonight and the sky's that lovely dark blue it goes just before it really gets dark - and being a little nosey, I like being able to look into people's houses.
I always try and get my Christmas shopping done in november so I can relax and enjoy december. I love the Christmas month here - lots of candles, it's a cosy month. The danes make a thing of advent, not in a commercial way (although there is that element too), can't really explain it other than to say it's cosy - like cuddling up under blanket. Christmas is celebrated on Christmas Eve (which isn't a bank holiday), people eat either duck or roast pork (or sometimes both) and a kind of delicious cold rice pudding mad with loads of cream and almonds, and served with warm cherry sauce. They hide a whole almond in the pudding and whoever finds it is supposed to hide it in their cheak until everybody's finished eating, then they get a small present.

Never enjoyed bonfire night - my bday was always dark, wet and smokey. The worst ever was when my aunties bought me fireworks for a present.

Used to love bonfire night when younger but not these day's only watching from inside, when young used to love going carol singing carying our candles in a jam jar with string for a handle we were asked at one house would we like money or a mince pie I called out mince pies and got thumped by the others when the door closed.

I love We Plough the Fields and Scatter SnoopySue bet it was lovely hearing the bells playing it.

They'd have thrown the mince pies if I ever tried carol singing either that or tomatoes!
