Hi Everyone,

My name is Ruth AITKEN. I currently live in Geelong, Australia. I moved here as a child with my family from Glasgow, Scotland in 1968.

I am new to the forum and hope to make some connections with my family history.

I have been toying with my family history for a few years now, but have been searching with a bit more seriously this past few months. I have had great success with my fathers side of the family, but have become quite stuck with my mothers side.

The two main surnames I have to start with are BARNSLEY and ATTWOOD. The information I have so far seems to base them around Rowley Regis, Dudley and Staffordshire. As my geography is not great, I am guessing these are all the same area broken into towns, counties or districts? I have my Grandfathers (William Frederick BARNSLEY) birth extract as well as the marriage extract for his parents - Robert BARNSLEY and Eliza Jane ATTWOOD. The extract list their fathers as William BARNSLEY and Gilbert ATTWOOD.

Looking forward to any help I can get.

Ruth
