Oh my goodness! Any other ideas than I have done? Cant have anti inflamatory meds because of my asthma?

Got stung by a wasp this morning... thought something dropped on my head, rubbed my hand through my hair, only to get the dreaded feeling... a wasp stung me on my wedding ring finger.
Quick action to the kitchen, cold water and took my rings off, anti histamines and sting stuff. Im allergic to stings and bites.
Had the normal things heart palpatations, pains in chest, joint ache etc.
Pain killers and then bed.
Stinking of vinegar and this sting stuff feeling rather fed up and poorly!
Sat now with a hand looking like a balloon, wrapped in ice in a bag, wrapped in a tea towel, that has just leaked all over the pillow I am elevating my arm with, typing with one hand
Only plus is good job I got my rings off cos now they wont go past the start of my finger nail!
Oh 2nd thoughts best be in bed!

jo carnt you use the anti inflamatory creams ?

no Peter, chest is tight from the reaction anyway, they still absorb in the system and am advised not to... I was really poorly on anti inflamatory a while ago.
Off to bed now see if I can sleep!

There's a lotion called "After Bite" (from Boots), which if you apply straight away is good. It's got ammonia in it, which neutralises the bite. Good for other insect bites too. Don't know if it's better than vineger though.

Thanks sue, used that spray, well one like as soon as it stung me.

No not got better Mally... much worse to say the truth.
Went to a drop in clinic next to the hospital this afternoon. They gave antibiotics, to carry on the antihistamines and pain killers and keep it elevated.
Feels like its going to pop! the swelling is up to my elbow now

The wasp flew off
Feeling a little better this evening, looking a little less like Popeye too!
Swelling went past my elbow in the end but is now almost to my elbow now, So is going down.
Mostly to my youngest pleasure!

That sounds horrible Jo. Good thing it was "only" your finger that was stung.

It says here http://emedicine.medscape.com/article/169324-treatment that Prednisone might help - that is given for asthma too so might be OK? Perhaps you should ask what to use so that next time (if there is a next time) you have it handy. Do you need to carry an epipen? What if it had stung you on your face? If I were you I would demand some advice

It is slowly going down and I feel much better myself.
I have asthma any way and had to take a little extra inhaler.
I think I should may ask about an epipen

My Goodness Jo, you poor thing, that is one big reaction. Yes I think an epipen may be worthwhile. Imagine being bitten somewhere more delicate than your hand. I would let your GP see the picture so they can see your response to bites

I agree to be bitten more delicate would cause a severe reaction and swelling....no I will not lower the tone.....
