Whilst researching the GARRATTS came across this:

1871 St.Andrew, Dudley.
Joseph KING hd. 45 Coal Miner b. German, British Subject
Margaret KING wife 49 b.German, British Subject
HENRY GARRATT neph. 19 Coal Miner b. German, British Subject.

1881 19 St James St., Dudley.
Henry GARRATT hd. 30 Coal Miner b. Germany
Amelia GARRATT wife. 28 b. Netherton
Joseph GARRATT son 8 Sch, b. Netherton
AMELIA GARRATT dau. 6 Sch. b, Netherton.
William GARRATT son 2 b. Netherton
Ann GARRATT dau. 0 b. Netherton.

Amelia GARRATT b. 1875 is I think already on BCC, recently
added by mumbles:

Anyone any info: as to why the Garratts (or Kings) would be
in Germany ??

I noticed that when looking at Amelia and in Last Census it reverts to Dudley Worcs.( British)
but on all earlier Census records German

Joseph King appears on later Census records as a Hawker British Subject Germany

But on 1891 and 1901 Census appears to have married again:-
1891 Census 8 Swan Street Dudley Staffs.
Joseph King 65 Hawker born Monah Germany British Subject
Jane King 68 born Campher Ponah East Indies British Subject

1901 Census 8 Swan Street Dudley Staffs.
Joseph King 73 Hawker born Monah Germany F.S.
Jane King 79 born East Indies F.S.

Possible Marriage:-KING Joseph L COPELAND Jane Dudley, St James Dudley Register Office 202/011/166 1890
