I have an ancestor. Her mother was Elizabeth Franklin b abt 1827 in Halesowen m Thomas Willetts. On BCC it shows Mary was the illagitimate child of Elizabeth. In my private tree i have Mary as the child of Thomas (This info had been shared to me by others). If this is so, does anyone know who her father may have been?
Thanks carole

Could do with this couple on census
to get ages
http://bcconnections.tribalpages.com/tr ... =876535022that marriage can be checked for her father...not that that means much

1861
48
Hagley Road, Hasbury
Thomas Willetts 28
Elizabeth Willetts 34 - b Halesowen
Eliza Franklin 17 - daug in law
Mary Franklin 12 - daug in law
Jane Willetts 7
Emma Willetts 5
Sarah A Willetts 3
William Willetts 9wk
Nailors, others b Hasbury
that answers it without the birth cert
as they are both dau in law
but marriage should be checked
I can do that

Added that look up Carole so I will see if she puts a father down
I am happy that it is not Thomas Willetts
but it would really need that birth certif.
I think that the census that puts dau in law is prob spot on
so unless you need any more on this pending a look up or if you order certif
flagging to archive

That's great.
If both are dau in law where are the husbands... Are they on another census somewhere? I can't find them through my access.
I will try again to see if i can find any spare Willett men in that age range.

Just thought about the age of Mary, 12, i wonder if it was meant step daughter, because i would assume at 12 she wasn't married. Elizabeth could be dau in law. BUT Thomas is only 28, Elizabeth is 34. So she could be their mother.
The plot thickens.

Carole, I am a Hasbury Willett descendant and have thoroughly researched all the Hasbury Willetts. The information from NL is correct. Thomas's was born about 1831 and Elizabeth about 1827. The reference to daughter in law, was the old way of describing step daughter. Thomas's age is a bit out on the 1861 Census, but that happened a lot, sometimes people did not know exactly how old they were, time wasn't an issue like it is today. All the information on the Willetts and Franklin family is on here:-

P.S. The only person who knows who Mary Franklin's father was, would have been Elizabeth. Unless he has been entered on Mary's birth certificate, we shall never know. HTH from Linell.
