Does your interest in genealogy ever cause arguments between you and other family members?

For me, it does. I seem to be stuck in an ever repeating argument with my mother about what I should focus on. I am more interested in finding out where I have come from, and so tend to dig more into the past and try and go further back, whereas she wants me to look try and find long lost relatives that we never knew about.

I do look to see if GGG Aunt had any children etc, but I find it more interesting to follow the pedigree line rather than the relative line.

So, back to the point, does it ever cause arguments in your house? Is it arguments about which direction you should be going in, or is it to do with the time/cost it seems to involve?

I just wander along the branches and see where they take me.

I quickly did the direct lineage but did not concentrate on that for long.

Hence I am up to 13000 people who are related to me or my wife in some manner.

I expect by the time I am finished my tre will probably be about 20,000 individuals.

What it does is give me a sence of history knowing so many stories.

It place my direct relative in a context I can understand from more than a limited set of families.

I'm almost at the end of what I can find out in terms of direct ancesters, just a few missing bits of info to get, and to verify what my aunt has found out.
Occaisionally I've ordered certificates for relatives not in direct line out of pure interest, such as a relative who was born a year after her mothers husband died. As the records are divided up by quarters it was just concievably possible that she was legitimate, but the birth cert confimed my suspicions.
I know my aunt is interested in getting back as far as possble, and her tree on Genes Reunited has very few who aren't of direct ancestry.
But no-one has tried to direct me in another direction... as yet.
