I can find him in all the censuses 1881,91,01. But can not locate him before that except his wedding here:

Marriage: 03 AUG 1878 St Nicholas, Newcastle Upon Tyne, Northumberland

What I know about him is: born 1852 Newcastle, Northumberland. On the marriage certificate from 1878 it states his age is 26.Occupation as striker (blacksmiths assistant). Interestingly it states his status as 'widower', but I can find no record of a previous marriage. Father Edward, profession (Cartman). Any help would be appreciated. I can find nothing to link father and son pre the wedding in 78.
PS The spelling of the surname name varies: Tindall, Tindal, Tindale, Tindell, Tendall, just to make it that little bit easier!!!

Who were the witness to marriage, does that help?

Yeah it was her fathers christian name. Funny thing is he started out as 'Fletcher' in the 1881 census. By 1891 it had mysteriously changed to 'Affleck'. He gave his daughter the middle name of 'Alfeck', 'affleck'. Even weirder, she named her son 'Fletcher' in the 1881 census. by 1901 he had mysteriously reverted to 'Affleck'

It's an odd name but it's really helped with my search.

Nor could I see Roberrts birth in Northumberland?
Wonder if bishops transcripts will help?

I've had a look at this. I don't know either where Robert fits in either. I do know that Barbara (if she wasthe birth mother) would be 42 at the point of Roberts birth!!!!! Also Interestingly, Edward & Barbara were married at the same church as Robert & Sarah in 1847. Coincidence?

Father was stated 'Cartman' as occupation. The Groom was 26 when married. But he was a widower!!!!!
