There is no Edwin Yates birth registered in Bedfordshire around 1844 and I can see no other entry for him in any other census as coming from Bedfordshire.

However, he was Baptised in Husborne Crawley on the 22nd Jan 1843 and seems to be "Base Born" to his mother Mary.

The only two entries on Ancestry for an Edwin Bates in Bedfordshire are the 1881 census and this, which is his death.

Name: Edwin Yates
Estimated birth year: abt 1842
Year of Registration: 1885
Quarter of Registration: Jul-Aug-Sep
Age at Death: 43
District: Woburn
County: Bedfordshire
Volume: 3b
Page: 199

His married Mary Ann Cook on the 31st August 1862 in Ridgemont, Bedfordshire.

Name: Mary Ann Cook
Year of Registration: 1862
Quarter of Registration: Jul-Aug-Sep
District: Woburn
County: Bedfordshire
Volume: 3b
Page: 607

It appears his father is Thomas Sibley according to I.G.I???

You will find him under the name Edwin Sibley in the 1851 and 1861 census.

Looks like his mother married Thomas Sibley.

I have no idea where he is in the 1871 census.

Sorry, I have been doing this so long I forget some people are just starting.

I.G.I is the International Genealogical Index.

It is a free service provided by the Church of Latter Day Saints (Mormons).

Here are three Free websites run by LDS that you can use to help with your research.
