:-)
A big hello from me to everyone out there in the forum. Thanks to the admins for allowing me to join.

I am Chris and I live in North Yorks with my wife and younger daughter. I have had an interest in history since I was at school and during the past 20 years, through looking at family pictures that came into my Mother's possession at the death of my grandmother, I have developed a fascination with genealogy. Up to my mothers death two years ago I questioned her endlessly on the family, many of these questions were then fended off to her brother in New Zealand and to her cousin in Sussex. All those pictures, negatives and documents have passed to me. Including my maternal grandmothers passport that was issued in Cairo in 1919 and lasted many trips around europe up to her marriage in 1924.

I started on the net with Genes Reunited. This I found not particularly, how can I put this, a satisfactory experience though I do hear that it has improved immeasurably in the past year or so. I have full memberships of Ancestry and Findmypast and through these I have created quite a large family tree. Sadly, my mother's cousin died very recently reducing still further my sources of stories about the family and sources of original documents and photos. :( A lovely man Stanley who will be sadly missed.

On my father's side I am researching the following: HOWELLS, of Llanelli and Llandeilo. STAPLE/STAPLES, Gower and Dorset. FRANCIS, mostly Gower though my great-grandmother Sarah FRANCIS (1862-1934) her birth is a bit of a mystery.

Enough for now, I look forward to further conversations with all of you out there.

Chris.

On my mother's side: CARDEN, of east kent. SOUTHAM, midlands and London. STREETER, of Harbledown. CHEAL, east grinstead.

SOUTHAMs were from betwixt and between Coventry and Rugby and around the town of Southam. The first name of Adnet and Basil within the SOUTHAMs came from this area when a son, Edward, married the daughter of Basil ADNET, Anne, sometime in the 1780's. Their son Basil Adnet SOUTHAM was born in Newbould-on-Avon in 1788.

Do you all find this family history stuff as absorbing (and addictive!) as me? I sometimes wonder if I shouldn't join genealogists anonymous!

   :?

Genealogists anonymous - isn't that almost what this place is!!
Doesn't help in getting rid of the addiction though
