I have just recieved a death certificate for Leah Jeavons, which raises a few questions!
Death Cert: 14 Feb 1876, Bloomfield Rd, Princes End: Leah Jeavons: Female: 86 years: Widow of Thomas Jeavons Liscensed Victualler: Effusion of the Brain: The Mark of Hannah Grainger, present at the death 35 Bloomfield Road, Princes End, Sedgley.
My problem is that my Leah Jeavons was married to Abraham Jeavons (1792-1852), who was also in the brewing buisness. He was a Beer house keeper at Hall Green, Sedgley. In case Thomas Jeavons was a mistake I'm checking it out. I thourght maybe Hannah Grainger was Leahs daughter, but I can't find her anywhere (there are census' of the right dates for Sedgley, but I can't connect them up with the Jeavons' family). I have checked the census and in both 1871 and 1881 there is no one listed for 35 Bloomfield Rd, although 36 is a pub. I have a Thomas Jeavons and Leah Jeavons at 33 Bloomfield Rd in 1871 and 1881,but he is too young to be Leah's husband and is recorded as her son. On the 1871 census Leah's birth place is Burton on Trent, on all other census's it's Sedgley.
I can't find a Thomas Jeavons, let alone one married to Leah that is convincing!
I somehow think there may be a connection, but I really don't know.
Help Please

I have found this census record, but can't find them further back. I have found a John Grainger married to Hannah, but it's not them as I can find them on the 1881 census too.
I've tried variations such as Josua and Joseph and the only thing I can find is a Joseph Grainger on the same page as a Hannah Fellows, which would rule out Hannah being Leah's daughter. I've also tried trade directories but couldn't find a Thomas Jeavons at the same time as Abraham.
So at the momment I'm no further on.

I've rechecked BMD, I can pnly find two death certs for Leah Jeavons in the right area (Sedgley), the first for 1851 is for my Leah's grandaughter who died at the age of one, and the second is for 1876 which is the one that says Leah's Thomas Jeavons widow.
I have a copy of Abraham Jeavon's will which although he died in 1852 wasn't proved until 1873. It makes provision for his wife leah, and his estate wasn't to be sold off until after her death, the buisness was to be carried on. I had thourght that the proving may have taken place after her death, but I suppose if she was unable to work any more it may have been settled earlier - but would that have been legal?
I'm stumped on this one.

The Leah on this census is the one who died in 1851 of measles and pneumonia - I have her death certificate.

I have all the census records, but I'm unsure of whether the Death cert I have for Leah Jeavons 1876 is the correct one, as it has Thomas and not Abraham as husband (deceased) with profession as Liscensed Victualler . It's also a mystery as to the address as the census before and after have the house as empty (doesn't say uninhabited, just no-one is listed).
I cannot find a Thomas Jeavons in the trade directories until after 1852 when Abraham Jeavons died - and I wonder if Thomas is really Leah's son, and the person supplying the information made a mistake.
I cannot connect the Graingers up to the Jeavons', maybe Hannah is Leah and Abraham's daughter, but I cannot find any evidence of this. There is a Josh. Grainger married to a Hannah who is in the brewing trade, so that might be the connection.
At the momment I can't find anything that makes sense.
Thanks for everyone's input.
Sue
