Hi Post what you have to start with and what you need help with and we
will do our best to help you.
The beginners section will show you how to find the info but we won't give you
the answers on a plate...will we guys!!
If you want the answers on a plate post in the GEneral Discussion
If you want to know how to do stuff yourself then this is a good section to start off in

So RR you want info on your grandfather
Robert Henry Wilkinson a cartman in the Stockton area
he married your grandmother Lillian Dinsdale around 1912 and she was married previously but her maiden name was Adamson?
So what do you have on these?
and what do you need?
Then we can guide you to the sites to look at or what you need next.
What certifs for these do you have?
Do you have that Marriage for them?

Ok the marriage exists in 1913 but I am not posting the details
Go to this site
http://www.freebmd.org.ukgo to search and click on Marriages
then put in the details of bride and groom
and the years
note Lillian could be spelt Lilian so put in Lil*
the * is a wild card to help where spelling may be a variation on the name
click on the relevant County or if not sure all counties
and click on find
it should take you to the Marriage in Stockton in 1913

Wahington Newcastle or abroad?
If you get stuck just shout on the general section.
Do you have any subscriptions for research anywhere?
Easy but very addictive when you get started
People will help, if you dont know where to start ask here as NL said, so you know "how too"
If you want someone to look up, add on the boards thats relevant. No worry if it does go on the wrong board it can be moved by a moderator.
Just have fun and enjoy!
Sometimes you will have to spend on certifcates to help you on the way. To be honest thats really exciting waiting for the postman to come!

Formerly normally means surname before marriage, sometimes says known as etc.
Sometimes people did live together and were not married and names may or not be as we expect.
It may mean you need a birth certificate first. Family lore isnt always as you would expect either.
List what you have, everything on the person, and if you need help, ask.
Dont want to spoil the hunt for you!

I don't understand this
Lilian Dinsdale married Robert H Wilkinson in 1913.
Was Adamson her mother's name?
