Hi, I am new to this list.
I am researching the family CHANCE from Netherton, Dudley.
We have James Chance married to Hannah ? in abt 1826.
Children include: Mary, Sarah, Thurza, John, Thomas & William James
William James was born about 1840, in Netherton. He married a Ellen?
Children were: Ellen, Hannah, Mary ( Mary my direct line) Thursa, Archie & Thomas.
Any fellow researcher interested in info exchange would be most welcome.
I have a very old photo of Mary Chance taken in Worcester.

The family they are lodging with include my gtgtgrandfather Walter Downes.
There is a marriage for William Chance to Ellen Downes at Dudley St Johns in 1860.

And I think this may be Ellen down as Elinor in 1851

Edward remarried to a Hannah Chance in 1857 I think (for some reason Hannah's father is down as John Beddall on the BCC site, not sure why that is so I will look into that).

Beats me! I can't find my certificate file at the moment. I may have the marriage for Hannah Chance to Edward Downes. Can't remember. Feel free to pu on what ever you want.
I think Hannah was boarding with Benj Round 1881 but can't remember how they connect.

Ok I will update...but look who is this Hannah who marries Edward Downes I am thinking she is the wife/widow of James Chance and that is her son William Chance who marries his Step fathers dau?

sorry catching up... so John not a James for a Hannah....so who did James Chance marry which Hannah

could he be a John James?

Did he have a brother called John? who is the witness for Hannah and Edward?

I am suggesting that William James Chance is the William Chance who married Ellen Downes in 1860. No father's name for him in the church entry but down as deceased miner.

Ellen's father Edward Downes had a 2nd marriage to Hannah Chance (né Beddall)
and there is

There is Hannah Chance in the 1851, already a widow, with sons Thomas (15), John (13) and William (11). Also Mary Round who may be the dau of Sarah Chance and Benjamin Round, if that checks out (m. Brierley Hill St Johns 1846)
Thomas's age doesn't quite match the Hannah and James family in 1841 but otherwise it looks the same. Only the possible marriage is for a John Chance rather than a James Chance.

Perhaps we should wait for Keith to get back to us?

I think this sums it up

I believe that Hannah unknown who married James Chance is the same one as Hannah Beddall who marries Edward Downes.

The reason I believe that is this.

On the 1881 Census there is a Benjamin Round and a Sarah Round married now I have the marriage certif for this.
The father of Sarah is James chance a miner deceased.
Living with them is a Hannah Downs widow. age 79
So that is mother of Sarah and the ex wife of Edward Downs so the wife of James Chance.

the fact that there is a Round living with Hannah or visiting dau of Sarah and Benj ties it all

Ok I am merging the 2 Hannahs. adding notes and will do that marriage look up
But of course the Census could have been put down incorrectly as James but meant John.
Notice the son is a John.
But I think it is James and maybe the vicar got it wrong.
there is a James dies 1842 Dudley the Johns that die are the wrong regis area stourbridge.

Can we find a bapt for a John?

Oh and Benjamin is the brother of my direct line William Round too
so not sure if that sort of makes us all related
