After obtaining my Grandfather's Birth Certificate, I have estalished his natural Mother is Mary Ann Sida b.1867. She is found in the 1881 with her father and siblings living at 18 Victoria Street, Plaistow. She married Charles Townsend b.1863 who is found in 1881 Census also living in Victoria Street, Plaistow at number 36 with his parents and siblings. Charles and Mary Ann are found together as a married couple in the 1891 Census living at 24 Alice Street, Canning Town.

I have searched and searched for an entry for a marriage.

Can anyone help me please?

Mmmm, I'm not sure, but even if she did, I still cannot find an entry for the marriage of Charles Townsend and Mary Ann Sida.

Just looked at the 1891 census John Toon appeared to have married Frances Poole so who did Mary Ann Pipe marry?

Basically, I need to find the marriage entry for Charles Townsend b.1863 to Mary Ann Sida b.1867.

Yes but if she had been married before she would have got married to Charles Townsend using here married name. The only one Peterd could find for Mary Ann Sida was the one below.

On the actual index image there is a Charles Townsend that marries in June quarter 1886 W Ham 4a 166, so it could be that Mary Sida was really unlucky and lost here first two husbands. On the birth cert that you have does if say 'Mary Townsend, late .......... formerley Sida'?

I think you will find this is the missing name, the one who married Mary Ann Pipe.

The Birth Certificate I have for my Grandfather states his Mother as being "Mary Ann Townsend formerly Sida".

The 1881Census for both Charles Townsend and Mary Ann Sida show them as living a few doors along so I'm assuming they were childhood sweethearts.

That would be right, there should be no mention on the birth cert of a former husband if she had one.

TOWNSEND, Charles Head Married M 29 1862 Dock Labourer
TOWNSEND, Mary A Wife Married F 25 1866 West Ham
TOWNSEND, William Son M 5 1886 Scholar West Ham
TOWNSEND, Charles Son M 2 1889 West Ham

If so, the age of William points to them getting married in 1886.

You could try sending for the Marriage certificate for the Charles Townsend who married in West Ham in 1886. If the Mary Ann he married had been married before then at least her fathers name would give you her maiden name. I can't see anything on the IGI.
