Can't read the writing on this old record

Hello,

I'm struggling to read what is written on my Great Grandfather's death record. I'm also not entirely sure about his first name, or his wife's maiden name!

If anyone could help it would be greatly appreciated.

Goodness it does look hard to read.
I was going to ask if its from Scotlands people but just seen it is. I have a few credits left for there and will look if you like?
What were you looking for to get this in the first place?
May be first name Richard?
You know an email to them may help, saying you cant read the image. They are normally very good
Jo :)

Hi Jo,

I agree - it does look like Richard, but unfortunately I have no idea about his occupation. Looks like 'Professed Bail' to me! I was looking at this record to find out who my great grandfather's mother and father were. Because he was born in England, I can't find his birth record on Scotland's People, but his parents are (sort of!) listed here on his death certificate. Hopefully, if I can find out what their names are, and the father's occupation, I'll be able to find them on one of the earlier census's.

It hadn't occured to me to e-mail Scotland's People, but I have done now. Thanks for the suggestion. If you would like to take a look yourself, I found the record by searching for the death of John Ellison in 1901 in Edinburgh.

Daniel

Louisa's maiden name was Pepper, and that's definately them living at 18 West Claremont Street (now called Saxe Coburg Street) - How interesting that their first son was born in London, then the rest in Lancashire and Edinburgh...

Do you know if their marriage certificate would tell me he name of their parents? And how I would go about finding it? Sorry for the amateur questions but I'm pretty new at this and so far have only ued Scotland's People to find records.

The marriage would show both fathers names and occupations and witnesses. They dont give as much info as Scottish ones though.
You can order it from here, using the information I gave from freebmd.

http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/

It costs £9.25.

May be Scotlands people will be able to give you some help on the death.
Let us know if you do find out!
Jo :)
