Mother's Day

It's been Mother's Day today in Holland.
Why is it not a universal day in the world i wonder?
In Europe there were several long standing traditions where a specific Sunday was set aside to honor mothers .The Catholics celebrate the fourth Sunday in Lent to honour the Virgin Mary but so does the Anglican church i think?
Historians think that children who served in houses were given a day off on that date so they could visit their families. The children would pick wild flowers along the way to place them on the church or to give them to their mothers as gifts.

It was Mother's day here too Rob but to be honest I think it is simply a late import from America. Traditionally there has always been Women's Day in late February, and that is for girlfriends/wives/mothers/all women. Then I think some sharp flower salesman decided to take up this one too.
Personally I like to stick to the 4th Sunday in Lent one but since I am an expat my youngest baked me a cake then, and today my eldest gave me flowers. So I get the best of both :-)
