Hi,

My Great Grandfather Thomas Toye b 1883 in Quinton, Worc (born as Thomas Toy), was the first member of my family to move into the Chester area, and he did so with his Brother David Toye b 1885 at the turn of the last century, and it seems he and David were put into a school for orphans/poor children/child criminals - I am not 100% sure either way.

His father my GG Grandfather Edwin Toy b 1860 Hill, Worc. vanished from the census in 1891, as did his wife Ellen b 1858 (I don't have a surname). I have no record of their death at all, or any reason why they have vanished from existence.

They also had a daughter called Eliza b 1888 who remained in Quinton, Worcestershire and stayed with her Grand Mother Eliza Toy b 1828 Quinton.

If anyone can help me here I will be massively grateful. It's a missing piece in my family history and I would love to know what happened.

just wondered what it said on any of the marriages re fathers status ie dec'd
and wits

sometimes you get the father as a wit

I couldn't find nothing on Eliza either.

Maybe I am looking in the wrong places.

I have found a death record for an Ellen Toy b abt 1856 - which is only 2 years out.

The location is Banbury, which may be the stumbling block.

the earlier marriages were recorded 4 or even 8 to a page in the parish registers and it is not always clear without going back to the originals which lady married which man -- the assumption being made here is that William Underhill married Betsy Wright and that Edwin Taye married Ellen Walford -- more investigation needed to verify this and then even more to see if it the marriage that you are looking for.

Ok it helps, but where is this document? I am searching from Ancestry, and what I have is Marriage registrations for that quarter, and for example I found the marriage for Edwin but it was just an alphabetical list.

It will be at one of the archives -- one of the experienced ones will be on soon and will be able to tell you which one you need given the reference details

Ok, I have all the census's up until 1901 for Edwin and Ellen.

I'm 99% convinced that the marriage details above are accurate, and that Ellen is Ellen Walford.

Did Edwin remarry? How many Edwin Toye's were ther who were also Bricklayers??
