I am descended from Richard and Fanny Pepler through their son ANdrew, born 1800. Richard died in 1842 at the age of 70 in the Croyden Workhouse. Fanny died in 1838. I have both death certificates - they do not give where they were from. Richard appears in the 1841 census in the Croydon Workhouse living with his son Charles and listed as having been born in the county. He is also listed with the name Peploe and was a gardener. I have no idea of Fanny's maiden name.
In order to find Richard, about 4 years ago I started collecting every Pepler/loe I could find in the British Isles, putting them together in families and building lines of descendency. I figured the Richard without connections would be mine. This resulted in my website http://pepler.tribalpages.com
I have found three possible Richards and still no idea of Fanny's name.
1. (which I have presently claimed as mine) is Richard Peploe, b 1772 in Great Stanmore. After his christening, I have no more information about him unless he truly is mine.
2. Richard Pepler, christened 1771 in Keevil, marries a Betty Gale in Keevil in 1790 and has Roger in 1790 and Jane in 1793. Could he have been widowed or started a new family around London? I can find no further information on any of these four.
Finally 3. Richard Peploe marries Mary Thornhill in 1791 in Saint Pancras in London - no ages, no places
I have copies of the parish records for all the pre-registration events.
So - At this point any and all help is welcome- I'm convinced my Richard must be one of these three, but which. ANd finding Fanny's full name would be miraculous

I think you have probably tried anything that I can think up! What a lot of effort has gone into your site!
Since I am a very curious person who is the Richd Pepler in Fleet Prison in 1841? he is down as 70 years old, bricklayer, not born in county. Is he the same person as leaves a will, probate in 1849, Richard Peploe builder of St Pancras? Probably not, I'm just curious

I got the will now and found the prisoner seems like there were two Richard Peploes that died in 1849 so looks like I need some certificates next. Thank you for the pointer - maybe (fingers crossed) I'll be able to cross off one of the possibles - Wish me luck - still doesn't help with Fanny though

Hve you looked into the Almshouses at all? You call it the workhouse in your post but judging by a quick Google it was not the usual type of Workhouse. It is possible that there may be records available somewhere. I wonder what gave them the right to live there? Either they had been been resident long enough in the parish or perhaps one of them was born there?
There is a book about the history of the Almshouses. Have you read it?
You could try emailing http://www.croydononline.org/history/genealogy/ and giving the 1841 census details, the two death certs, and ask if they have any suggestions re Fanny.
