If this John Garrett is the father of the William you are looking for. Then John is the son of Samuel Garrett (b 1842) who married Maria Summers. They are on BCC

Sorry TWG, I don't have a full list of Samuel and Maria's children. John never appears with them on any census. The only way I know he is theirs is that he is living with Ann Summers (Maria's mother) in 1881 at Hill street Dudley (In the notes for Thomas Summers (1801) on BCC) along with his sister Sarah Ann, and they are down as Ann's grandchildren. As far as I know the only Summers daughter to marry a Garratt is Maria.

Ann Summers lives with an older John Garrat as his housekeeper at one point. These Garratt and Summers seem to be .....very friendly ...shall we say.
