So sorry!

Please accept my apologies for the flight cancellations today!
The funny thing is that the main airport here in Iceland is actually open (wind blowing away from it, towards the volcano) but the planes can't take off cos most of them are headed for the UK or North Europe
And please note, this eruption is in a small glacier but the next glacier over is bigger, with a nastier volcano in it. Historically the one erupting now seems to have set the other one off. So who knows what will happen next.
But I am sorry for all the folk who have had their plans disrupted.

Saw the most spectacular pictures on TV this morning. I had never realised that volcanos could erupt from a glacier - something new I've learned.
Like NL I hope you're quite a distance away from this 'nasty' - keep in touch

I am quite safe
Now that the main flood is over then I think people will be safe enough. The area is very well monitored so they were able to evacuate folk and close the roads - they dug some breaks in the main road so that the water washed through the gap rather than damage the big bridge.
The main problem is that the farmers have to get permission to go into the area to do the milking and feed the animals and so on and some have had their fields covered with thick mud so the pasture is ruined.
That is just the flood water though, don't know what the volcano itself is doing, hopefully not too much! My husband is supposed to be driving that route after the weekend and if he has to drive all round the north of the country instead of along the south coast he is not going to be very happy!

When's the next boat Di?
Don't believe all you see on Sky News because they are mixing in pictures of the pretty eruption over Easter. So far i haven't seen any of the new one because it is hidden by cloud. Above the cloud level you can see the eruption column with the problematic ash, down on the ground you can see the melt water and fally ash (if you are downwind of it).

Anyway where is our resident vulcanologist when we need her?
What is the situation over there?

It is all so depressing that I went out with my family to celebrate a 60th birthday (not mine).
Actually the coverage on SkyNews is better than ours. Our news people didn't realise just how exciting it would be to be interviewed at the end of a bridge on a windy day - please note : if it says Live from Hvolsvollur then that is where my in-laws live.
The sad truth is that no-one knows what will happen, least of all any vulcanologists, so they all go: it could continue for months, or not.
I love geology.

My daughter teaches locally - term starts Monday.
They have staff at present stranded in Cuba, Italy, Orlando (no chance of flight until Thursday if that) and another in Scandanavia.

Shall I blame you Gardener?
Or may be the volcano?
Doesnt look like my hubby will be home Wednesday

They tried getting 4 choppers out to the rig today but only managed 1. Looking for boats now if they can.
Shouldnt complain because hes not stuck yet. Poor lads who should have been home I do feel sorry for and their families.
Less time home before and if they get out again ok.
Its caused so many problems all round.
I hope things are ok for you and your family though.
