Shelah Garratt Question

SHELAH GARRATT. bapt: 7 OCT 1781.
Bur: 16 SEPT 1855
ELIZABETH (Barnett)
The following children are entered for Shelah and Elizabeth

HANNAH GARRATT
Bapt: 22 DEC 1805 St Thomas, Dudley

WILLM. GARRATT
Bapt: 2 AUG 1807 St Thomas, Dudley
Bur: 14 JULY 1832

JOHN GARRATT
Bapt: 4 JUN 1809 St Thomas, Dudley

MARK GARRATT
Bapt: 10 FEB 1811 St Thomas, Dudley
Died: 1896

LUKE GARRATT
Bapt: 18 OCT 1812 St Thomas, Dudley
Bur: 2 MAR 1814 St Thomas, Dudley

In the 1841 Census the following are listed,
Shelah 60 nailor
Elizabeth 60
John 25 nailor
Benjamin 15 miner
Eliza 14 nailor
Prudence 5
Edwin Spencer 20 nailor

But there is no record of them having a Benjamin or Eliza.
However carrying on from Luke (Buried 1814) we find the entries for a Shelah and a Sarah.

ELIZTH GARRATT 29 JAN 1815
MARY GARRETT 2 FEB 1817
SARAH GARRETT 28 FEB 1819
ANN GARRETT 6 MAY 1821
BENJN GARRETT 12 JAN 1823
ELIZA GARRATT 31 DEC 1826

Here we find a Benjamin and Eliza of roughly the right ages,to the Census records.
I can't find another Shelah to fit the age group, or a death of Elizabeth, during this period, or remarriage of Shelah.

Is this the same Shelah having a second family while his wife is still alive, or what?
Any information appreciated.

MARY GARRETT 2 FEB 1817
SARAH GARRETT 28 FEB 1819
ANN GARRETT 6 MAY 1821
BENJN GARRETT 12 JAN 1823
ELIZA GARRATT 31 DEC 1826

and then look at the ones for Shelagh b after 1811
might get bit on the bapts for these
MARK GARRATT

Died: 1896

LUKE GARRATT

Hi Jan,

Re census there's one child from the first group of children and two from the second.

Names from both groups were passed down for the next two generations.

Re abode and occupation, Netherton and nailer seem to fit in both cases, but I'll recheck to make sure.

And no marriage for a Shelah and Sarah, but again I'll recheck.

It gets very confusing because the Garratts seem to be generous and accommodate all sorts of relatives.
I think the Prudence living with Shelah and Elizabeth in 1841 is the daughter of Samuel and Elizabeth Garratt christened 26 FEB 1837 Saint Thomas, Dudley, Worcester, England, and this Samuel is Shelah's nephew ( son of Julius Garratt and Mary Pugh/Lee).
Getting confused, but does this make Prudence Shelah's great-niece?

Now, if this is so, Benjamin and Eliza could be grandchildren or niece & nephew rather than children of Shelah & Elizabeth.

That's a good scenario, gives me something to look at.

I shall have to delve a lttle deeper into the relatives of this Shelah to see who's who, where and when.

Thanks Di.
