Since I have to wait for my Halesowen registers to be delivered...

Can somebody who already has them please check the Banns and Marriage date for Thomas Cutler and Nancy Dearn in Halesowen in 1793.

I.G.I has the marriage date as 12th June on some records and 19th June on others.

Witnesses and any other information would be appreciated.

So Thomas signed the register? That is a surprise....

The alternate marriage, and this is where the Cutler and Dearn families get entangled, is Mary Dearn and Thomas Cutler, 17 Jan 1790, Halesowen.

Can we please check up that marriage and witnesses.

Mary and Nancy are supposed to be sisters with Stephen Dearn and Sarah Chatwin as parents.

Nancy baptism 22 Mar 1771, St. Johns.

Mary baptism 14 Jul 1777, St. Johns.

Is there any more information on their baptisms?

If Mary was baptised 1777 then it mus tbe some time after her birth, otherwise she married very young!

There should also be a Thomas Cutler baptised 15th October 1769 at St Johns. Parents Samuel and Phoebe.

Another (a bastard?) baptised 30 Sep 1764 with mary Cutler as mother.

ANother baptised 6th December 1769, John and Mary as parents.

So you can see why there is confusion. We have many Thomas Cutler baptised Halesowen in 1764-1770, two marriages involving a Thomas Cutler and a Dearn girl within a few months.

My contention is that the Thomas with Samuel and Phoebe as parents must be the one that married Mary Dearn as the first born boy is Samuel and they have a daughter called Phoebe.

Ther Thomas that married Nancy Dearn is my concern as he is a direct ascendant of mine.

I suppose the next clues would be the headstones and/or burial records.

The Thomas Cutler that married Nancy Dearn was buried 23 August 1840 in Bromsgrove. Ceremony was conducted at St John the Baptist.

Is there an entry in the registers?

Nancy was buried 10 Mar 1844.

I think the Mary Dearn is not the sister of Nancy but another Mary Dearn baptised 30 Sep 1770, John and Sarah as parents.

She is way to young to get married if Baptised 1777 since Stephen and Sarah seemed to be sticklers for getting them baptised soon after birth.

I think Nancy's siblings are Isaac (1766), Samuel (1768), Ezeckiel (1774), Mary (1777) and maybe Edward (1784) and Hannah (1787).

Trying to follow this

I have found it can solve things if you check the actual registers
so if you flag the marriages we can look at signatures
I connected 2 marriages by comparing the signatures
So if Thomas did sign that first marriage
then made an X on the other
unlikely to be same Thomas Cutler

is that what we are saying it maybe the same Thomas Cutler?
