Hi Folks
This is my first post here thanks Peter for telling me about this forum. I have a Willetts line in Liverpool but I haven't found any links back to the Black Country yet. The name seems to have Black Country origins and I found a reference to a few generations of Willetts gunsmiths in Wednesbury which may be connected to my Willetts line. The furthest back I've got so far is the following marriage in Liverpool of Silvanus Willetts. I don't know where he was born:-
Marriage: 12 Aug 1793 St Paul, Liverpool, Lancashire, England
Silvenus Willetts - Gunsmith of Liverpool
Jane Russell - Spinster of Liverpool
Witness: John Quail; Edward Coventry
Married by Banns by: Henry Barton Minister
Register: Marriages 1773 - 1810, Page 107, Entry 25

Thanks folks. Sylvanus does appear in the Liverpool Workhouse in the 1841 census and he appears to have died in 1849. I don't have his death certificate. I think with him having been in the Workhouse and considering his age there may not be any information on there about his origins. He was born about 1770 according to the census entry and not in Lancashire so he may have come from somewhere in the midlands. The following are known children of Silvanus and his wife Jane Russell:-
Samuel Willetts (1796)
Elizabeth Sophia Willetts (1797)
James Willetts (1800)
Isabella Willetts (1803)
Ruth Willetts (1805)
Jane Russell Willetts (1809)
My line is via his son Samuel Willetts and his son Edward Russell Willetts.

it still might be worth getting the death cert might be something on it depends if he died in the workhouse or not and what records they had on him also might be worth seeing if there are any workhouse records for sylvanus about, these are your only two poss leads at the moment ?
