Lost in Sheerness!

I am looking for the parents names of my great great grandparents: Charles Thomas Soper born abt.1815 Sheerness, Isle of Sheppey and Lydia Ann Taylor born abt.1813 Gillingham, Kent. Charles was a sawyer in the dockyard. They married in Minster (Civil parish), Sheerness in 1836 and first 4 children were born in Minster also. The records seem to be missing from 'Kent Family History Society' parish registers. Anyone know where else I can search? Wondering whether to visit Canterbury or Maidstone archives? Any help please!

Many thanks for the promt reply! Yes that's the right family. They are mentioned in the census's but give me no clues as to their parents. The marriage details on the parish register mention James ?Taylor and an Edward Jarrett for witnesses. Incidentally, I found the marriage under the surname ?Jones but am certain this is their details as I had the date14.8.1836. It's therefore possible her father is James or could it be James Soper! Still nothing concrete to go on really.

Yes, the family moved to Deptford and had 9 children. I have already traced Soper offspring from these children as they all went on to have large families as well - mostly living in London. I also think John Henry was Charles' brother as I have traced him as being an ancestor of Baron Donald Soper (the outspoken politician) who, unfortunately, I have been told was related to us! I have tried researching his name but have also had no luck. With regard to Amey - would he have been christened at least 4 years after his birth? Am still checking 'James Taylor' but none have jumped out at me yet!
