Trying to find the wife of George Sewell, mother of Ann Sewell. and generally expand on the Sewell family.

http://bcconnections.tribalpages.com/tribe/browse?userid=bcconnections&view=0&pid=39730&rand=641763958

I.G.I suggest it is a Jane Herring is George's wife and that the marriage was 1812 but provide no source for this information.

I am fairly certain that George Sewell was Baptised in Old Swinford on the 30th September 1797.

His siblings are the only Sewell baptisms I.G.I list for Old Swinford.

The parish next to Old Swinford is Pedmore, where Ann Sewell claims she was born in all the census entries for her.

I can find no Sewell baptisms in Pedmore on I.G.I

We have an unknown Susannah in the 1841 census that may be Anns mother. Any guesses? Second wife? Eldest daughter?

Windmill Street, Old Swinford, Stourbridge

SEWELL, George M 40 1801 Worcestershire
SEWELL, Susanah F 30 1811 Worcestershire
SEWELL, Joseph M 15 1826 Worcestershire
SEWELL, Ann F 12 1829 Worcestershire
SEWELL, Elizabeth F 4 1837 Worcestershire
SEWELL, George M 2 1839 Worcestershire
SEWELL, Sarah F 3 mo 1841 Worcestershire
EVERS, Richard M 25 1816 Worcestershire
WATHOUSE, Mary F 20 1821 Worcestershire
WATHOUSE, Thomas M 2 1839 Worcestershire

I cannot find a marriage, with reliable sources, for George and Jane Herring or George and Susannah.

I.G.I have fairly extensive coverage of these parishes so I am stumped as to where to go from here.

On 1861 Ann Ford is aged 36 and puts Pedmore

so that fits more with the 1825 one
but I have only added in notes as we need more confirmation

the name Sarah is the name of the Pedmore Ann Ford
I dont think it is the 1829 one
but only added in notes not in actual body copy.

What is Anns age on other census?

and this lot would be good to find on 1841 if poss

parents George and Sarah Shouell

William 24 Feb 1823
Joseph 28 mar 1824
Charlotte 15 Apr 1827
Ann 9 Oct 1825

Ann's birth year varies between 1820 and 1825 in the census. The 1841 census is rarely accurate with the birth year and I always allow a + or - 5 years on that one.

Ann puts down Pedmore on three census and Stourbridge on another as her place of birth.

He first two children are born out of wedlock but since I have found no baptism records, I can only assume the father is Edward Ford.

The first two children were registered with the Sewell name but used Ford throughout their lives.

Ann, her children and Edward are all living in the Skeldon household in 1851.

Ann Skeldon was a witness to the wedding on the 1st November 1851.

I will have a look at the Shouell family a bit closer.

Ok let us know how you go on
Flagging now to archive this and it can be brought back with more info
or we can move it to Brickwalls

If you find anything you can update BCC with the correct info in the ancestor template

Do you have access to those bapts Gardener found?

I noticed that Shouell was concentrated aroing Kent and London I started looking at the Parish Registers around those areas.

In Pallots Marriage Index there is a card that simply says.....

Shouell, see Sewell.

I think this is conclusive proof that the two names are interchangeable.
