Hi,

I've been researching my own family tree for a few months although I still consider myself a beginner.

I've managed to go back to the early 1800's mostly using a combination of census records and birth records (although mostly census).
I've currently been using a combination of a web tool (myheritage) and some basic spreadsheets and web-page copying.


All this is fine, but it is becoming difficult to manage so many records.

I would really appreciate some advice on a suitable genealogy software package that manages (cross-references) the data from census records.
Alternatively, if anyone thinks I'm going about things the wrong way and that as I progress there will be a better way of organising my efforts - please tell me !

I think that family tree maker is a good idea to house your family tree on and take back ups on a memory stick and hard drive.
I made the mistake of putting all mine on Genes and having that as my main tree and it
isn't as flexible as the family tree maker.
So had to transfer it all to ftm.
There are other packages available that is just the one I go with.
