Watching the Tudors for the 2nd time

and good old Henry 8th is tucking into a huge beef pie
and it got me thinking...how convenient is the humble Pie

with all its fillings
so easy to cook
and so easy to transport

apparently they used to throw away the pastry and just eat what was inside it

The meat pie is, of course, the Australian national dish for eating while watching any form of sporting endeavour. But the name of this delicacy should be pronounced in proper Aussie fashion as "meat poi".

I had a few "pie floaters" when I was there.

The 'true' meaning of the 'humble pie':.....
The 'UMBLES' are the the innards of a cow, things
that are not normally eaten ! Poor people could
only afford to purchase this...they encased it in
a thick crust to make it more palatable.
Hence the phrase 'EATING UMBLE PIE'
