Hi all
Well the brick mason is certainly busy with this individual. Much of what I know comes from his obituary and is listed below:

John moved to Oldbury a few years before he died sometime between 1930 and 1950 (only a guess)

His wife's name was Frances Amelia Butler and they had at least 1 daughter Elsie who married Harry Floyd from Stafford

John lived on Vicarage Road and on the manifest for Elsie lists her home as 145 Vicarage Road.

A preliminary service was held at the Trinity Wesley Church with the Revs J.H. Hooper and W. Floyd taken part.

Any help would be much appreciated
Glenn

Given that he was a Weslyan preacher his details could be on a list at the Methodist headquarters - I have to say I have only tried once to get details and not very successfully but admittedly I didn't have too much info in the first place.

When was Elsie born? if it is anywhere near 1913 onwards I find that typing the surname and maiden name of mother into birth registers gives other possible siblings

Hi peterd

Elsie was my grandmother and when they moved to the US in 1926 they brought very little with them. On her manifest she lists her age as 30 in 1926 - so she was born in 1896.

The obituary states 'The deceased, who came into Oldbury a few years ago, was an accepted local preacher....'. My guess is that he lived in the surrounding area. Elsie's husband, Harry Floyd, seems to have come from Stafford.

Both my grandfather, Harry, and grndmother, Elsie, did not talk about relatives in England and I only became interested in genealogy after their death's.

Thanks very much on the marriage information and also for John's middle name. I do not have the certificates. Can you provide a link etc so I might obtain a copy?

I hope that I can find some living relatives can give me some life stories etc

Many thanks for your response
Glenn

Hi Maths girl

Thanks for your suggestion. I have tried that with no success. Any links that someone from the US can use to help would be appreciated

Thanks
Glenn

Thanks to all - with John's middle name and the additional info from the 1901 census, I have many leads that I can now follow.

I do have 1 question. It is stated that he was a boot maker. During this period of time would a preacher have a second source of income i.e. a Wesleyan preacher and boot maker at the same time

Again, thanks to all for the information
Glenn

glenn as Mg said Aston is not john middle name its where he was married in birmingham

if he was a lay preacher then its possible that bootmaker was his full time profession ?
