Hello, I'm Ellie. I'm tracing my family, my late uncle got me into it. The problem is I seem to have hit a brick wall
. There are Hollins in my family , my mothers Grandad. I know he was born in 1875, and that he died in 1918, and where both of these events occured but I cant find much information on the census about him. He literally seems to have disappeared
. He's on the 1881 census and the 1901, but in between he's disappeared! I know we have to allow for age differences as the records are not always accurate, but none of my potential matches actually tally with the information I've collected. Anyone got any tips?

I'm looking for William Hollins Born 1875 ( approx) In Longton, Staffordshire, England. He married Esther Rees in 1901 also of Longton, Staffs. I need the record for 1891 please, I can't seem to find where he was living at the time. However, I know in 1901William Hollins aged 27, (according to the census) marries Esther Rees (also of Longton staffs), aged 22.

Esther - Potter's throwers asst.

HI when I looked on these records beforehand, I found that record but it didn't tally with the rest of my finds.Maybe theres an error on the census records collectively, which makes my ancestor difficult to trace? The difficult thing is that looking at the records from 1881 and 1891, as I recall there are a few possibilities, two are people who are adopted, which doesn't help. On Williams marriage certificate, which I've just had a look at, his father is named Charles, but again, I can find no record of a Charles Hollins on the 1901 census, or anywhere else.

if the 1901 census show that william hollins was married to a esther then there could be two possibles
this one
HOLLINS William CORNES Esther J 1898 Civil Marriage (Wolstanton) Staffordshire Stoke-On-Trent
or this
Mar 1901
Finnerty Ann Stoke T.
Hollins William Stoke T.
Rees Esther Stoke T.
Wood Edward Stoke T.

These are the results of my finds, but as you can see they don't all tally. However, I do know that this part of my family lived in John Street Longton, both my mother and uncles confirmed this.
HOLLINS FAMILY
1901
William snr 41, carter.
Sarah 41
Louisa 19, Potter's baker of ovenware.

Lizzie 10, Scholar
Hannah 10 months.
Living at 16, Middle John Street, Longton, Staffs.
William Hollins Jr aged 27, (according to the census) marries Esther Rees, aged 22.
William - Potter's placer earth worker
Esther - Potter's throwers asst.
Living at 7, Ford Street Longton.
1891
William Hollins Snr (DOB 1855, Longton) aged 35, a Carter married to Sarah(DOB 1857, Ellastone) aged 30- housewife.
William Jnr ( grandad Hollins) aged 10
Lousia 8

James H 3
Getrude 1
Living at 10, Peel St, Longton.
1881.
William Snr - aged 26 Carter
Sarah -28

1901 marriage certificate for Esther Hollins (nee reese) & William hollins gives the name of williams father as Charles, not William? Charles worked as a miner. The 1901 census has one possible match, but his age in 1901 is 68. ? retired.

then there might be a possibility of these being what you found in the census belonging to the other couple, what folk sometimes remember is not always correct your asking people to remember what happend 100 years ago, it might be correct
who were the witneses on the marriage cert what was the address married from and what was charles occupation
HOLLINS William CORNES Esther J 1898 Civil Marriage (Wolstanton) Staffordshire Stoke-On-Trent

b]The family is definitely of Longton, Staffs.
William married Ester Rees in 1901 in Longton Staffs, not sure about the witnesses as I don't have the certifiacte to hand at the moment.
However Charles occupation isn't clear as the handwriting isn't legible, it looks like it could be 'carter'[/b]
