James Homer married an Alice in the 3rd quarter 1908 in Birmingham, Warwickshire. Volume 6d Page 306.

There are only three people in the BMD index that are shown if you enter that reference.

Thomas' wife is not shown so I assume her page and index entry has been wrongly transcribed.

Looking at West Midlands BMD, this marriage is not shown at all.

According to the 1911 census, Alice was born abt 1888 in Birmingham.

Has anybody got an idea how I can confirm which of rhe zillions of Alices married that quarter in Birmingham might be the right one?

only two way real is to put the person name in vol page then check image to see if there on that scan, to bring up image click speckecles scrool down and select the format you want to view it in

then the ones that have been mist transcribed check agianst 6d 306

or go through 6d 306 images picking out all the alices then checking them out for a marriage until you cannot pair one up

hope you understand this

This is rather way out - but given that you know the other two on the list presumably got married to each other could you use their marriage to track down the church and then go back to the church register itself to look at the original page?

But which church?

the ones I flagged some of those only had 3 on so might be one of those
you could write nicely to Birmingham regis office and the nice people there
and ask him to look for you the name of Alice?
They might not tell you but worth an ask

If I have it right the "4" names referenced are on the same church register page - so I was suggesting if we could track down the other couple and where they might have been married we could narrow the church down to a few in their area.

Yes, I had that census entry so I knew about when they got married, and therefore got that entry for Thomas.

I also had that list of Alices that married that quarter in Birmingham and did start going through them but found that just threw up more questions when you came across odd numbers of people on the pages.

I think I will have to do the hard slog again and any that look a possibility I will try and find a death with the married surname.

None of those Alices have a question mark over their page and book number in freebmd.
