Hi everyone,

Has anyone done any research on Dorothy Round, the tennis player from Dudley who won at Wimbledon twice in the 1930s?

It seems from a brief search on the internet that there are a lot of people who claim they are cousins of her! I thought it would be useful to have her on the BCC so that people have somewhere they can check. I believe a lot of these claims are based on the fact that these people have relatives called ROUND from Dudley so assume they must be related, but as we know it was one of the most common names there.

If this research hasn't been done by anyone I'll give it a go

only her father has been mis-entered with his middle name as his surname so that needs fixing and then Dorothy and her brothers adding.

OK we know from info on the net that her full name was Dorothy Edith Round.

A lot of internet sources give her DOB as 13th July 1908, but the birth indexes show that the only Dorothy E Round born within a couple of years of that was the one born in July/Aug/Sept 1909. I suspect the internet sources have all been quoting one another and getting it wrong, as I can't believe they would have waited a year to register her birth....! There is only one Dorothy Edith in the 1911 census, the other Dorothies within a couple of years all have different middle names.

Ok I have fixed that and added the marriage info that was missed off too

That's excellent, I will go in and put all the census info in.

Is San around? I'd like to know how they know that Benjamin was baptised in Tipton, as all the censuses have his birth in Dudley.

Although I added the names, I think the other info has been added since cos the format isn't mine

I have changed that bapt to a possible one in the notes
and have changed his place of birth as Dudley although I think it is probably Tipton

Tipton is fairly near Dudley and it does look like his sibs are born Tipton on the census
Living West Brom area too!
The church I find they use is St Martins Tipton

but I have deleted the place of birth for sibs of Benjamin
all the bapts I have put as a possible
but again having looked at it I think that those bapts are good
esp with those sibs on the 1841 being bapt at St Martins Tipton

Noticed no marriage for Benjamin

this could be a possible...
