Hi

Doing a bit of digging on the children of Jesse & Caroline Clee.

They had a daughter Catherine born in 1870. She was living with her parents in 1871 & 1881 & 1891. I assume she married after 1891.

Checking the West Midland site I've found a marriage, in 1891, of a Kate Clee to a Joseph J Fellows at Dudley, St John The Evangelist, Kates Hill.

Freebmd shows a Kate married in the December 1891 quarter [volume 6c page 69]. On the same page is a Joseph Jeavons Fellows.

The BCC site has a Catherine Clee [born 1870] married to a Joseph Jeavons on 1/11/1891 at St. Johns, Kates Hill.

Who's right?

Doug

Could be all the same- just that one site has used Kate as abbreviation for Catherine or transcribed wrongly because of "Kate's Hill".

No one's right Doug, in family reseach, different names and spellings for the same person occur all the time, nothing is set in stone, you have to be open minded when doing genealogy. Linell.

Thanks for the reply - a quick search of this site helped me understand the confusion of Jeavons & Fellows.

This is a tricky one I have been thinking about this...

I think that we need to from now on show the names as they manifest themselves as long as it keeps to one variant
on how you spell that name

So if gt grandfather shows as Joseph Fellows Jeavons
ok
then son is
James Jeavons Fellows
ok
then his son is
Mark Fellows
and on to
John
Jeavons

as long as we keep to one variant
ie Jeavons not Jevons
Fellows not Fellowes

that I think will then mirror how the surname changes down the ages thru the generations

we take the risk of not finding the individual under the myriad of changes but will if we
know about the family, and changes hopefully check all variants

I am ok with us doing that
we can see how it goes.
There are not many like this
and it is not set in stone so can always be revisited.
