I don't know if this is the right board to post this on, maybe it should go on the lookup one, but I'm trying to establish the parents of my great-great-great grandparents Joseph Allcock & his wife Sarah [nee Richards] who were married 13/12/1824 at Saint Peter Or Collegiate Wolverhampton Staffordshire [source IGI M010201]. Does anyone have access to the parish records and do they show the parents of the bride and groom?

In the 1841 census Joseph& his family were living in Bradley Bilston Wolverhampton Staffordshire. Both he and his wife are shown as being born outside the county in 1811.

In the 1851 census they are living at 86 Chapel Street West Bromwich Staffordshire.Joseph born Aston, Warwickshire, England in 1805 & Sarah 1805 at Madeley Wood, Shropshire, England. All the kids are born in Bilston.


In the 1861 census they are living at 48 Chapel Street West Bromwich Staffordshire.Joseph born Bilston, Staffordshire, England in 1802 & Sarah 1803 at Madeley, Shropshire, England

Joseph died before the 1871 census was taken. Sarah is a widow, born 1803 at Madeley, living at Jesson Street, West Bromwich, Staffordshire.

In 1881 Sarah is, I believe, living at 25 Stanley Grove Thornaby Yorkshire. She is shown as born at Elmsmere, Shropshire in 1811.

IIt would appear that Sarah died in 1888 aged 85 [source free bmd - listed as Alcock registered at Middlesborough].

I've tried the IGI but there are none that I can ascribe with any certainty.

No mention of the parents but the witnesses were William Leek and Samuel Hancher.

The marriaage was by Banns.

Alcocks is the spelling in the registry.

Is she is from Ellsemere then she would be in the Hordley registers (which is quite distinct from Madeley.....)

There is a Sarah Richards baptised on the 13th October 1809.

Parents are Richard and Ann.

Siblings would be:

William baptised 20th July 1794 buried 13th April 1795

Ann baptised 17th August 1795

Margaret baptised 11th November 1798

Richard baptised 5th December 1802

William baptised 9th March 1806

Mary baptised 17th September 1809 buried 4th January 1810

John baptised 10th May 1812

Can;t find the marriage for Ricahrd and Ann at Hordley.

If that is you Sarah then her father is living at Castle Forgate, Atcham, Ellesmere in 1841 with an Ann who might be Sarah's mother but her age is too low in the census.

It could be her sister.

Richard born 1771 somewhere in Shropshire.

Ann born 1791 outside of Shropshire.....so probably the mother but a dodgy birth date. (Her sister was born in Shropshire).

Looks like they are pensioners in 1851 (annuitants) and living in Stafford, Church Stretton.

Ann gives her borth year as 1781 (still a bit young) and born in Smethcott, Salop.

Richard sticks with 1771 and born in Church Stretton, Salop.

Switching birth counties between Shropshire/Staffordshire/Warwickshire and Worcetershire is a curse I have to put up with wwhen researching my Dodds. So it is not of great concern she has swithed to now being born in Salop. Manyof the Parishes cross the borders and hte borders move.

If Joseph was born 1805 in Bilston then he should be in the St Leonards parish register.

The only Baptism for a Joseph Allcock was 1st June 1789. Parents Joseph and Eleanor. Nothing under Alcock.

Looking at nearby parishes....

Nothing in Wednesfield. Nothing in Willenhall. Nothing in Wolverhampton.

There's a couple of Sarah's born in Ellesmere, according to the IGI, in the timeframe 1801-1805 so I might have to concede defeat on this one.

I have the Ellsemere registers and they are not in there unless they came from St Mary the Virgin Parish. which has some items missing in I.G.I. and the registry transcripts.

I know this because I have had the curator look up the physical register for me.

Bagley would be the town they lived in if they attended St Mary's.
